About LivingIT – connecting Livingstone’s Communities

Welcome to the LivingIT Web Site.  The content of this site has been developed by the community members themselves, expressing what is important to them and their community.

You can navigate around the site using the menu bars and if you like, you can join discussions with the community members on the bulletin board.

We are still adding content, so when you have time, please feel free to return and join with us in discovering our Livingstone communities.

The LivingIT project is about connecting people and places, and it is through strong community development processes on behalf of Livingstone Shire Council and excellence in community education by LNQ’s Capricorn Coast Learning Centre that this project has reached its current stage.

These pages are the commencement of a Shire, wide world wide web presence for communities, both in a physical sense and communities of common interest.

Integral to this project has been the availability of training in the use of Information Technology, particularly in the rural and remote areas of the Shire, providing opportunities that would not otherwise be available.

The development of strong partnerships between Livingstone Shire and LNQ has allowed many people to begin a journey of discovery utilising  the internet, often by people who until recently have never turned a computer on, let alone developed the content for a web page about their community.

A message from Mayor of Livingstone Shire, Cr. Bill Ludwig

LivingIT, an initiative of Livingstone Shire Council and Learning Network Queensland’s Capricorn Coast Learning Centre, is about connecting the people and communities of our Shire and beyond.  It is through engagement in information technology that this project builds the capacity of the community to move forward in a changing world, taking advantage of opportunities, and sharing our knowledge and experiences.

Our communities, although sometimes isolated through distance or limited access to communications, have enormous strengths.  The LivingIT project is helping to break down some of the barriers of isolation so our communities can share and build on those collective strengths.

Through developing strong partnerships with Learning Network Queensland and embracing the ethos of “Life Long Learning” we are creating new opportunities to learn together as a community and share our knowledge through this web site.

Building the social fabric of our community and experiencing economic development through embracing community education has and will continue to be a high priority of this Council.

That commitment is paying huge dividends as we see the growth of community spirit and confidence through people connecting with each other.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Queensland Government Department of Employment and Training in making this project possible.

A message from Learning Network Queensland

Learning Network Queensland's mission is to meet the challenge of ensuring a better quality of life for all Queenslanders by helping to build learning communities so that individuals may have informed and effective participation in every sphere of life.

Our commitment to community sustainability means assisting communities to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in and respond to social, economic and technological change. We are also committed to ensuring that communities have access to the tools and infrastructures that will allow them to actively engage with the knowledge economy.

The partnership between the Livingstone Shire Council and our Capricorn Coast Learning Centre is an exemplar of the power of community partnerships.

Since 1999 LNQ, supported by the Livingstone Shire Council has been able to provide Information Technology training to over 1300 residents of the Shire.  This partnership was recognised for a National Local Government Award in 2003 for excellence in Information Services and the LivingIT project is building on that success.

We are proud to be partners with the community, Council and the Department of Employment and Training in a project which delivers on our organisational goals.
